Usain Bolt claimed he was useless in the kitchen because his mother “never taught him” how to cook — as he opened a Caribbean-style restaurant in London.

The eight-time Olympic champion, 32, was joined by a host of celebrity friends, including actor and DJ Idris Elba, and Elba’s fiancée, model Sabrina Dhowre, for the launch of Tracks & Records near Liverpool Street Station.

It is his first foodie venture outside of his native Jamaica, where he oversees venues in Kingston, Ocho Rios and Montego Bay. The restaurant has more than 150 types of rum on the menu, 100 of which are from Jamaica.

SPRINT LEGEND Usain Bolt hosted a multitude of celebrity friends on November 14 at the official launch party for Tracks & Records – his first London restaurant.

The Jamaican inspired restaurant, bar and lounge welcomed the likes of Idris Elba, Leon Bailey and Emeli Sandé to name a few, who partied well into the night, sipping on rum cocktails and enjoying the unique Jamaican party atmosphere with the world’s fastest man to celebrate his latest venture.

Offering an authentic slice of Jamaica in the heart of the capital, Tracks & Records is Bolt’s first restaurant in the UK and is located a few minutes’ walk from Liverpool Street Station at 94 Middlesex Street, E1 7EZ.

When news broke that treble Olympic gold-medalist Usain Bolt had plans to open 15 restaurants across the UK, I was thrilled. Not just because Bolt is someone who I admire greatly – he’s from the same area in Jamaica as my Dad and so is amazing by default – but also because I was excited at the prospect of the food.

I’m of Jamaican heritage, and there’s a special place in my heart for the island’s cuisine. I adore it all – from jerked chicken and curried goat to ackee and saltfish and plantain, plus everything in-between.

Of course I can cook this stuff all day long but sometimes, you want to go out and dine somewhere that’ll do that for you. Somewhere offering great service, authentic dishes with a cool, relaxed atmosphere, where you might even hear some good tunes, have a cocktail or six and shake a leg after dessert.

While there are a select few Jamaican restaurants – not nearly enough, though – in the capital that serve good food, none tick all of the above boxes.

So, I headed to the launch of the athlete’s first UK outlet – Usain Bolt’s Tracks & Records near Liverpool Street station, east London – curious, hungry and looking forward to a taste of the menu.

The second City of Jamaica just got a little cooler with the recent addition of Usain Bolt’s Tracks and Records. UBTR MoBay opened in May of this year and has grown in strides and savoury strength since. Beyond the attention-grabbing statue of the greatest athlete of all time, UBTR MoBay attracts locals and tourists, boasting authentic herbs and spices fused with an international flair.

According to General Manager Amit Mahbubani, the other UBTR franchises joined the Restaurant Week family and did well, so UBTR MoBay decided to follow salacious suit. The chicken breast stuffed with cheese and callaloo passed the taste test with flying flavours and made a smooth landing on the RW menu. “Diners should come to get the real Jamaican experience. Even though we’re new, we’re established so you can expect nothing but the best in quality and service before, during and after Restaurant Week,” Mahbubani added.

The first global Usain Bolt Tracks & Records (UBTR) restaurant is set to open in the UK later this year.

The restaurant, Casual Dining Restaurant Group (CDRG), to be operated under the umbrella of the SME Group, will be the fourth UBTR location.

The SME Group is a private holding company operating, under franchise licence, over 120 restaurants and hotels.

“Our newest franchisee is in the UK, which is the CDRG restaurant group and we are very excited about that. We can say tonight (Wednesday night) officially that we will be opening our first location outside of Jamaica, which will be in London later this year. So we are very excited about that,” KLE CEO Gary Matalon announced.

Usain Bolt decided to go BIG for his restaurant opening in Jamaica this week … bringing in a big ass statue of himself — made mostly of real bolts.

Turns out, the Olympic legend is a budding restaurant mogul — he just opened his 3rd Tracks & Records eatery in Jamaica … and he’s got 15 more spots opening up in the U.K.

So, to celebrate the grand opening of his Montego Bay joint Wednesday night, he threw a massive party … with the grand unveiling of the famous “Bolt of Bolts” statue.

The artist — German musician Vita Diedel Kloever — created the piece back in 2012 … and said it took FOUR MONTHS to put together.

He installed it at the restaurant late last month.

As for the restaurant, jury’s still out on the “Escovitch Fish Sandwich” and the “Burgers a la Usain” — but we’re betting at the very least … the food comes out fast.

LONDON, England:

Jamaican-based franchise company FRANJAM has signed a major contract with the United Kingdom (UK)-based Casual Dining Restaurants Group (CDRG) to open 15 Tracks & Records restaurants across the UK over the next five years. The first will be opened within a few months.

Tracks & Records, a Jamaican-themed restaurant, which boasts eight-time Olympic gold medallist Usain Bolt as a key partner, started operations in Kingston, Jamaica, in April 2011.

“This is a significant milestone in the company’s development. When we created the Tracks & Records concept, it was done with these major markets in mind. The UK has been a key target market for us since the conceptualisation stage over seven years ago, and there is no greater satisfaction than to see it unfold in this way,” stated FRANJAM’s Managing Director, Gary Matalon.

“For Jamaica, I believe this signifies the first time a local, home-grown concept has evolved into becoming an international franchise. This confirms Brand Jamaica’s potential and gives us widespread hope that we can export many other Jamaican brands through this business model.”

BOLT IS HAPPY

Key partner Usain Bolt, who just completed his last individual race at the IAAF World Championships here in London, stated: “I’m happy to be able to share a taste of the Jamaica that I know and love with the rest of the world through the opening of these restaurants across the UK. London has always been a special place for me, and I thank Aly and CDRG for giving us the opportunity to share our vision and our culture with you all.

“We are pleased to add this incredible Jamaican brand to our growing number of franchises across the world. This partnership with Usain Bolt and the Tracks & Records brand will allow us to introduce an experience to our markets here in the UK that is as close as it gets to actually visiting the island and will give them a real taste of Jamaica,” stated CDRG director and Chief Executive Officer Aly Esmail.

Jamaica’s Minister of Tourism Edmund Bartlett said, “Jamaica is famous for great food, great athletes like Usain Bolt, and a culture second to none. Gastronomy tourism is a big focus of enhancing tourism experiences right now, and this deal will only amplify our efforts of positioning Jamaica as a gastronomy destination.”

Hotelier Christopher Issa will open a Usain Bolts Tracks & Records (UBTR) restaurant in Montego Bay by July this year. The deal with Issa is KLE Group’s second local franchise arrangement for the restaurant and will grow the chain to three.

“We are looking forward to creating an amazing experience for our hotel guests, tourists and locals alike,” said Issa.

The restaurant will be located in St James Place Shopping Plaza, which adjoins Issa’s newly acquired hotel property on Gloucester Avenue. Issa is in the process of redeveloping the former Breezes Montego Bay hotel, which…

Usain Bolt’s Tracks & Records (UBTR) sports-entertainment themed restaurant has opened in the resort town of Ocho Rios.

And Bolt is already eyeing other destinations in North America, Europe and the Middle East.

The Ocho Rios establishment, UBTR’s first franchise location, will cater especially to tourists who seek the full experience of Jamaican culture- sports, music, vibes and authentic cuisine. Run by the husband and wife team of Joshua and Marsha Jhamnani, the restaurant mimics the UBTR that KLE Group owns and operates in Kingston.
